Niagara Falls is widely known as the honeymoon capital of the world, and for good reason. Niagara Falls draws visitors of every stripe to behold a sight that literally roars of natural beauty and wonder. However, many people who visit the area seek out the world-class amenities that the city of Niagara Falls has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner, a little excitement at the casinos or some shopping in the heart of the city, Niagara has everything a vacationing couple needs.
The Skylon Tower is a classic viewpoint for the Falls and is so close that it required building permission from both the United States and Canada due to its proximity to the border and sheer size. Atop the tower are three explorable floors and an observation deck. Traveling up the sides of the tower are “yellow bug” elevators which are supported in the rear, rather than the sides, by guiding struts. This was the first time this form of elevator was used in Canada. They are open to the air and use special equipment to maintain the cables that raise and lower the carriages.
The three floors of the tower which rest upon the summit contain two restaurants and a floor for conventions that’s seldom used. The upper restaurant is the Summit Suite Buffet and the lower is the Revolving Dining Room. The former is more affordable and family friendly while the latter is more lavish and elegant — dining options to suit any budget and desired atmosphere. The revolving dining room has a small motor that rotates the entire room at the rate of one full revolution per hour. This makes for simply spectacular views to accompany your delicious meals.
Newly attached to the Skylon Tower is the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. This casino has over 3000 slots and over 100 tables for table games. The neo-classical decorations bring a sense of luxury to the resort. The Casino Resort has a wide variety of amenities to satisfy the gamer and luxury-seeker alike including player rewards, VIP services, regular entertainment events, a spa, fitness center, 374 hotel rooms and regularly occurring entertainment events.
Also in the city is Casino Niagara. Casino Niagara is owned and operated by the crown corporation OLGC, or Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation as is the Fallsview Casino Resort. This location has more than 1500 slot machines, 40 table games, four restaurants and three bars.
Queen Street has recently undergone something of a revival. After losing many retailers and customers to the Niagara Shopping Center in the 1970s, the downtown area stagnated somewhat. This was not uncommon for the time, as many urban centers experienced some flight. However, as Queen Street began to revitalize, many shops, restaurants, boutiques and cafes have returned to the area to find willing and eager customers. Now, the area is vibrant as ever and boasts a revitalized Seneca Theatre which will host many upcoming theatre productions and live music.
All of these events and interesting activities combine to make Niagara Falls a great escape for a couple of any age. In fact, with the amount that there is to do, you’ll need to schedule extra time to see it all — especially when you factor in the way time flies when you’re with the one you love.
