THE 80S CLUB: HONEYMOON SUITE, A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS, MEN WITHOUT HATS & SPOONS

February 10 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Between synth-pop and rock and roll, the 80s was an iconic decade of music, with hits that still resonate years later. Don’t miss the ultimate 80s party with performances by Honeymoon Suite, A Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, and Spoons

Honeymoon Suite’s self-titled debut album was released in June, 1984. The album featured four charting hits in Canada: New Girl Now, Burning In Love, Wave Babies, and Stay In the Light. Their follow up album, The Big Prize, was equally successful in Canada, with four more hits: Bad Attitude, Feel It Again, What Does It Take, and All Along You Knew. In June 2007, the band officially announced the return of a reunited classic line-up of Johnnie Dee, Derry Grehan, Ray Coburn, Gary Lalonde, and Dave Betts.

A Flock of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80’s new wave era. I Ran (So Far Away) was released as the first single from their 1982 debut album, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video, which featured long shots of singer Mike Score and his distinctive, cascading hair.

Since their formation in 1978, Men Without Hats have been at the forefront of popular electronic music, creating worldwide anthems of joy and positivity that have weathered all musical styles and trends, mirroring and recounting the mysteries and challenges of the space and time we live in. Men Without Hats have had two of their songs – The Safety Dance and Pop Goes The World – inducted into the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

Spoons helped define the sound of pop and New Wave in the 80’s, with hits like Romantic Traffic, Old Emotions and Tell No Lies. Their album Arias & Symphonies would go on to be named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of The 80’s by The Chart Magazine and their song Nova Heart was included in Bob Mersereau’s book The Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time.
