An annual event for more than 40 years, the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights features a spectacular 51 nights of lights and is Canada’s largest FREE outdoor light festival!

The LightsWinter Festival of Lights

More than 75 illumination displays and 3 million lights will be on brilliant display along an 8km stretch of the Niagara Parkway, in Dufferin Islands and across the tourist districts. Visitors can drive or walk through the popular festival route to experience the outdoor, self-guided event. Displays are grouped in themes including Royal Promenade which features Princess and Knight, Lilac tree, lotus flower, fairytale village, Frosted Falls home to Elf, Candy Canes, Gingerbread House and family, and the Great Canadian North with Mama Polar Bear and Cub, stalagmites and the popular Royal Canadian Mounted Police. One of the most popular illuminations areas is Dufferin Islands which offers a wildlife collection including some of the most iconic displays. Flying geese, wooly mammoth, harvest moon, inukshuks, wolves, swans, bears, and Noah’s Ark are on view. The Canadian Horseshoe and American Falls will come alive each night with a special illumination show that will captivate viewers. The display produced by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board showcases colour palettes and movements inspired by the festival’s spectacular displays and winter in the north. The Northern Lights, fierce blizzard storms and falling snow are mimicked by the show. The display is part of the regular nightly illumination of the Falls, with the five-minute lighting display playing at the top of the hour, at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm each evening during the festival dates.

A sweet addition to the Festival last year is returning; the Niagara Falls Hot Chocolate Trail. Participating Niagara Falls Hotels and restaurants throughout the tourist district will be offering specialty cups of the decadent drink. Visitors can expect classic combinations and exciting flavours like mint, orange, s’mores, and flavoured marshmallows. Some venues are offering spiked versions featuring flavoured liquers or add-in’s making this an exciting addition for guests of all ages. The show featured breathtaking displays of fireworks, and live music performances from numerous locations across the United States, and featured a patriotic tribute that painted the Falls in a mesmerizing palette of red, white, and blue light.

Located on the border of the United States and Canada, Niagara Falls is an iconic destination that celebrates holidays on both sides of the border. Holiday Weekend Road Closures In Niagara Falls To Support Pedestrian Traffic

Niagara Falls is a popular destination, with throngs of visitors travelling to see the incredible Falls. This summer, visitors on holiday weekends will find that areas in the tourist district have been transformed with an emphasis on pedestrian traffic. A partnership between Niagara Parks and the City of Niagara Falls has created a schedule of planned road closures throughout the core area of Queen Victoria Park.  By closing these roadways to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will have better and safer access throughout the tourism area on holiday weekends that typically bring higher visitation to Queen Victoria Park. This will also assist Niagara Parks Police and Niagara Regional Police in managing the area, as well as providing controlled access for emergency services. The schedule begins with the Canada Day long weekend and will also be in place for the Civic and Labour Day holidays:

• Canada Day Weekend (Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2)
• Civic Holiday Weekend (Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6)
• Labour Day Weekend (Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3)

On Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2, the famed Niagara Parkway will be closed to vehicular traffic from Clifton Hill to Fraser Hill, beginning at 7 p.m. with a full road closure in place by 8 p.m. Clifton Hill from Victoria Avenue to Falls Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 8 p.m., along with Murray Street from the Niagara Parkway to Warren Avenue.

Murray Street from Warren Avenue (Skylon Driveway) to Fallsview Boulevard will remain open to provide access to the businesses and properties in the area. Access to Niagara Parks’ Falls Parking Lot will continue from the south.

All road closures will be at the discretion of the Niagara Parks Police and Niagara Regional Police Service and timing may be adjusted as required. In the case of inclement weather or visitation levels being less than anticipated, the road closures will be modified or cancelled.

During the road closures, the WEGO Green line will continue to operate from Rapidsview to Table Rock. WEGO Red line and Blue line will move to reduced routing due to the road closures, there will be no service to Table Rock and Clifton Hill from 5 p.m. to the end of the daily schedule.
