Pillitteri Estates Winery
Family owned and operated by the Pillitteri’s, the Pillitteri Estates Winery has been open since 1993 and is renowned for the icewine production at this facility. The grapes for this estate winery are harvested from the family’s 100 acre vineyard, that is planted with bitis cinifera and French Hybrid grape varieties. The Pillitteri Estates Winery’s philosophy is “To produce the finest VQA wines possible from the highest quality grapes grown in Niagara.”
The approach of producing the finest VQA wines from quality grapes in the Niagara Region has earned the Pillitteri Esates Winery over 450 international and domestic medals. Some of these include:
- The Vinitaly Grand Golds and Civart Trophy
- 2009 Gold Medal at the Best of Riesling in Germany for the Vidal Icewine
- 2009 Silver Medal at the Chardonnay du Monde in France for the Chardonnay Icewine
- 2008 Gold Medalist at the American Wine Society for the Vidal Icewine
The Barrel Cellar at the Pillitteri Estates Winery needed 1350 metric tons of concrete to create the cellar. In the middle of the cellar is a 500 inch long monolithic concrete table with a terrazzo surface. Hung above this amazing table are 23 stainless steel chairs, specially designed for the cellar. The French and American oak barrels at Pillitteri Estates Winery sit in a constant temperature of 54 Degrees Fahrenheit with 50 to 70% relative humidity and are not vibrated nor are they in the sunlight at any point.
