Niagara keeps Terry Fox’s dream alive

The $30 that Caitlin Davidson and her friend Makayla Van-Helsdingen donated at the annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday made Les Potapczyk smile.

“It all adds up,” the event’s co-organizer said. “This all helps keep Terry’s Dream alive.”

When Terry Fox embarked on his history Marathon of Hope in 1980, his dream was to have every Canadian contribute $1 to cancer research.

Thirty three years later, that message remains the same.

“That’s the beauty of this event, there’s no minimum. Terry said if you gave $1 you were a part of the Marathon of Hope. So imagine if everyone in Niagara Falls each gave $1, we’d have over $82,000.”

An estimated 650 people participated in this year’s five kilometre walk which was held at Oakes Park.
