Regardless of the time of year, visitors to Niagara Falls can count on a number of truisms holding fast: The waterfalls will look amazing. The wineries will keep putting out award-winning wines. The hotels will continue to provide some of the most comfortable and convenient accommodations in all of North America, and the food at our farm-to-table restaurants will highlight the region’s bounty.

From the dead of winter to the height of summer’s craze, Niagara is a reliable destination, which is why some of the world’s best entertainers choose to come here regardless of whether the crowds have returned. If you’re headed our way this April, here are three of the events taking place at the Avalon Theatre in Fallsview Casino that you won’t want to miss.

Solid Gold Motown

From April 7th through April 16th, the world of Motown will come alive at the Avalon Theatre. Named after Motor City: Detroit, Michigan, Motown Records was founded back in 1959. Showcasing and curating the absolute best in popular black music, within just a few short years, Motown Records was the most successful label in the United States.

When you take in the experience of the singers and dancers in Solid Gold Motown, you’ll see and hear why: From The Supremes and The Temptations to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, the sights and sounds of Motown include some of the most iconic American music ever made. Sink into the luscious sounds of one of pop music’s Golden Eras with this musical revue. Tickets are just $25, and some days feature a matinee performance.

The B-52s

Proof that even the strange can sometimes become popular, The B-52s have enjoyed a memorable and storied career with hits such as “Love Shack,” “Rock Lobster,” “Roam,” and “Dance This Mess Around.” An American band that first formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976, The B-52s feature male and female vocals and a look that’s expertly culled from the psychedelic 1960s.

For fun and danceable songs that don’t take themselves too seriously, The B-52s provide a perfect night of music. They’ll perform at Fallsview for one night only on April 23rd at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $45.

Grand Funk Railroad

An American rock and roll band steeped in the American blues tradition, Grand Funk Railroad was one of the most sought-after and beloved bands of the 1970s. Originally from Flint, Michigan, the band found massive success thanks to hits like “The Loco-Motion,” “We’re an American Band,” “Bad Time, ” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” and a daunting touring schedule that found them playing arena after arena all over the world.

After the height of their success in the ‘70s, the band members went their separate ways except for occasional reunion shows or tours. These days, they tour around 40 days a year, and one of those days finds them in the Avalon Theatre on April 30th at 9 p.m. Tickets start at just $25, which, for anyone who loved rock and roll in the 1970s, is an incredible deal.

So, bring your love for music and fun to Niagara’s Fallsview Casino this April for rock and roll, Motown, and the best in weirdo pop music.
